How To Roll Weed

There are many ways to enjoy weed. There are vaporisers, bongs, pipes and a good old-fashioned joint! Rolling a joint can be tricky, however, there are many products out there that make it easier to roll weed. While vaporisers can be expensive, and bongs have a tendency to stink up a room if left dirty, you can learn how to roll, whether you’re a noob or a pro.

You can roll weed into joints, spliffs, and blunts. Joints simply contain weed, while spliffs are a mixture of weed and tobacco. Both joints and spliffs are rolled with rolling papers, while blunts (which only contain weed) are rolled in tobacco wrap, providing a unique experience to the session.

The anatomy of a joint

To understand and master the technique of rolling weed, you need to become accustomed to what makes up a joint. A J (or joint) consists of three main ingredients:

  1. Rolling paper
  2. Tip/Girrick/Mouthpiece
  3. Weed/Bud/Kush

Rolling paper is a major component of a J. Puffing on a joint can be smooth sailing if you are rolling with the best. Organic (usually hemp) and unrefined rolling papers are recommended for rolling weed because of their ability to enhance the flavour and aromas of the weed.

A tip, girrick, mouthpiece, or whatever term you prefer, is the area which you puff on. It acts as a barrier to prevent the weed from being sucked into your mouth.

Last, but not least, is the most important part of the anatomy of a joint, the weed. Using the correct weed is important. For an optimal experience, use weed that is properly cured and dried, as damp weed will make for an underwhelming experience.

Let’s get rolling Vaperite’s way

To master rolling, Vaperite recommends a few items:

  • A tray for spillage, because spillage is wastage!
  • A grinder
  • Steady hands and some patience

Guide to rolling weed

  • Start by grinding the weed.

Pro Tip: leave the grinder open afterwards for easy access

  • Grab your pack of rolling paper and remove a sheet of paper and tip. Leave the paper in the tray and start folding the mouthpiece.
  • To roll the mouthpiece, fold the cardboard into a small M and wrap the surrounding rest nice and tight.

Pro Tip: the size of the M determines how fat your J is going to be. If this is a solo session, make sure the mouthpiece is not too big before you bring it into the paper.

  • With your dominant hand, slip the mouthpiece into the paper, and hold the paper with the glue side away from you, firmly wrapping the paper around the mouthpiece.

Pro Tip: be sure to leave the mouthpiece sticking out a bit for the last step.

  • Grab your grinder with the crushed up weed in it and sprinkle it into the paper.

Pro Tip: sprinkle less weed near the mouthpiece, so the joint can take on that cone shape.

  • Spread the weed along the paper and round it out a bit
  • Using the tray, place it right beneath the joint, start tucking the paper around the weed into the paper on both sides
  • Slowly roll it towards the glue side, tucking in the weed as you roll a cone.

Pro Tip: use your thumb to roll and your index fingers to support the outside.

  • Lightly lick the sticky glue and start at the mouthpiece to slowly seal the joint
  • Tap the joint, with the mouthpiece facing down on the tray, and scoop up any weed that may have fallen out
  • Push the filter in to compress the mouthpiece and make sure it’s sitting nice and snug in the paper
  • Finally, twist off the end to seal the joint, and you are good to go!

Back in the day, if you wanted to smoke weed, you pretty much had no choice but to roll a joint. And not everyone was good at it. Thankfully for the noobs out there, Vaperite has a solution for you – a cannabis rolling machine

How to use a cannabis rolling machine

  1. Insert the mouthpiece into one end of the rolling machine
  2. Sprinkle some crushed up weed
  3. Lock the rolling machine, securing the mouthpiece and the weed
  4. Give it a turn using your thumbs to mimic a rolling technique to form a joint shape
  5. Insert the paper into the rolling machine, with the glue side facing you, and continue to roll the paper into the rolling machine just until you are left with the glue tip.
  6. Lick the glue strip to activate the adhesive and roll it all the way into the rolling machine.
  7. Unlock the rolling machine and remove your joint.
