We realise how intimidating it might be to start vaping for the first time if you do not know what equipment to use, which e-liquids to buy or even the terminology within the vaping community. To make this journey a little simpler, we will look at the differences between some vape tanks, namely RDA, RTA, and RDTA tanks.
They are all used for specific purposes and have distinctive features. We will also look at how the mechanics of each of these tanks operate to get the desired outcome for your vaping sessions, so you can choose which tank is ideal for you.
What Are The Different Types Of Tanks?
RBA is short for Rebuildable Atomizers. This means that it is a rebuildable system that allows you to insert your own coils and wicks. Meaning you must wrap your coils yourself, attach them to your device, and add a wick.
An atomizer is simply a tank that vaporises e-liquid and produces vapour when a current passes through it. Many vapers want to be able to customise their vaping experience to their preference.
When it comes to atomizer builds, there are several options available. It all depends on what you want to do with your device and how convenient you want to make it. You can adjust the resistance of your coils and create a high-performance coil that is distinct from store-bought coils; it is also much cheaper to produce your own coils.
We will look at three different Rebuildable Atomizers (RBA):
- Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer (RDA)
- Rebuildable Tank Atomizer (RTA)
- Rebuildable Dripping Tank Atomizer (RDTA)
What Is An RDA Tank?
A Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer (RDA) is made up of a build deck, an external covering, and a drip tip or mouthpiece. This atomizer does not have a tank and stores the juice directly on the cotton wick. To use your vape, you must drip the e-liquid straight onto the cotton wick. The e-liquid will last around 3 to 4 hits before needing to be dripped again. This might be seen as a drawback because many individuals do not want to carry an e-liquid bottle around with them to refill their devices.
Also, if you do not re-drip your device after the e-liquid has run out, you will have a “dry hit,” which can cause coughing. The RDA is popular among cloud chasers who desire an intense flavour experience. And because there is no tank to empty before refilling, changing e-liquid flavours is a breeze.
If you don’t know how to operate a rebuildable drip atomizer, it may be extremely messy. If you are not cautious when redripping, you may spill some of your e-liquid, but this is a minor inconvenience in comparison to the amazing flavour you will enjoy. Another reason the flavour on the RDA is so fantastic is because the mouthpiece or drip tip is directly on top of your coils, providing thick vapour and pure flavour.

What Is An RTA Tank?
The Rebuildable Tank Atomizer (RTA) is quite similar to the RDA, however, the main difference is that the RTA has a tank while the RDT does not. When you own an RTA, there is no need for regular dripping. You will have a glass tank that holds your e-liquid, normally between 2 ml and 5 ml, and as you vape, the e-liquid will drip on the wick to function.
The tank is quite convenient if you are on the go because you can fill up your tank before you leave, and it will keep you going for quite some time before you need a refill. If you adjust the resistance of the coils to your preference, the RTA offers wonderful flavour and vapour. The RTA also features a build deck that can accommodate one, or even more, coils for customization and adjustability.
One disadvantage of the RTA is that it is not very versatile and is best suited to experienced vapers. Because if you do not have prebuilt coils with you, you will have to create your own, and if you do not do it correctly, your device will not operate properly. Any errors in modifying your RTA might result in leaking, and if your device falls, the glass tank may shatter. Also, before filling your tank with new e-liquid, you will need to know how to properly clean it, or you will not taste a pure flavour.

What Is An RDTA Tank?
The Rebuildable Dripping Tank Atomizer (RDTA) is, as the name suggests, is a combination of the RDA and RTA. It can be used by either storing e-liquid in its glass tank or by dripping e-liquid onto the wick. It was just recently invented, yet it has quickly gained popularity. The build deck is located on top of the tank, which offers a lot of flavour. Instead of tucking the wicks beneath the coils on your build deck, they are placed in the e-liquid and absorb the e-liquid as you draw from the device.
The RDTA takes longer to refill the wick than RDA tanks, but it still offers fantastic flavour and a lot of vapour. Because the e-liquid does not saturate your wicks as much as it does on an RDA, the flavour and vapour are not as thick, but it still offers a great vaping experience.
The RDTA is nearly leakproof due to the combination of the RDA and RTA. Please be advised that the device may start to leak if it is placed on its side while travelling or in storage. The RDTA is also regarded as a tank for experienced users and might be challenging for a new vaper.
The purpose of the RDTA is to combine the ease of the RTA and the flavour of the RDA into one perfect creation. That is why you can make use of the dripping system or the glass chamber to fill it with e-liquid.
So, Which Tank Is Right For Me?
It all depends on the results you want to achieve with your vaping sessions and the sort of device you want to use. However, to assist you, here is a guideline you may use to choose which type of rebuildable atomizer is best for you.
- If you are looking for an easy rebuildable device, RTA devices are recommended because it can be refilled once and used for a few vape sessions before needing to be refilled.
- Vapers who want to produce large, dense clouds of vapour should use an RDA device. This is due to the large build deck section, which allows for the installation of larger coils or additional coils.
- The RDA and RDTA are the best RBAs to use for great flavour, since you can drip your e-liquid directly on the coils.
